In Texas, they say everything is bigger, and that includes the bold and vibrant flavor of Texas-style iced tea. Visitors quickly discover that this refreshing drink is unlike anything they've ever tasted. The iconic barbecue pit, a cornerstone of Texas culture, delivers some of the smokiest and spiciest barbecue on the planet. To perfectly complement such rich flavors, a sweet and cold beverage is essential.
What makes Texas iced tea truly exceptional? In Brownsville, our Master Blender had the privilege of meeting an elderly woman who shared her treasured iced tea recipe—the best in all of Texas. Settling into a porch swing, he eagerly noted her instructions:
“To make 1.5 quarts of tea, start with one quart (4 cups) of fresh cold water in a kettle and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, infuse 5 grams of black tea in a teapot. Pour the hot water with passion; really let it splash down and agitate the tea—get it mad, y’all! After that, set the tea aside and let it steep for at least an hour. Once steeped, strain the tea into a pitcher, add ¾ cup of sugar, and stir until dissolved. Finally, mix in a couple of cups of cool water and place it in the fridge until it’s chilled. When you're ready to serve, garnish it with a generous slice of lemon—big enough to squeeze juice right into the drink! And that’s it!”
To compliment this wonderful recipe, we’ve crafted what we believe to be the world’s greatest tea blend for brewing world-famous Texas iced tea. Embrace and enjoy, y’all!
